The COVID-19 pandemic is having a significant impact on the tourism sectors of small states, including small island developing states, which depend on tourism for up to 90 per cent of their exports. This issue of Trade Hot Topics highlights some of the immediate implications facing small states and explores potential policy responses and strategies to assist small states with a gradual but sustainable reopening and recovery of their tourism sectors.
