Poverty in the Third Jewish Commonwealth: Sephardi-Ashkenazi Divisions

21 Apr 2008

This article examines the disparities that exist between two Jewish ethnic groups: the Ashkenazi and the Sephardi. The article takes an intricate look into statistical data that helps to explain the disparities in socioeconomic conditions between the Ashkenazi and the Sephardi. The reasoning behind the Sephardi’s comparably diminished living conditions is explained in detail. Of the Sephardi, three groups are labeled as ‘most-at risk’ for substandard socioeconomic conditions: the aged, large families and young couples. In Journal of Jewish Communal Service, 52:1
