Outdoor fitness equipment in urban parks

2 Feb 2016

Survey questions assessed awareness of the active park equipment in the neighborhood and frequency of equipment use. [...] If respondents were aware of the park, open and close-ended questions were asked about perceived benefits of the equipment in the community, limitations of the equipment, and suggested ways to increase equipment use. [...] The proportion of females observed and the proportion of older adults observed in the parks were similar to population census estimates.i Adults were observed engaging in a number of activities across parks. [...] Adults were observed using the equipment more frequently in the spring, on weekdays, and in the evenings. [...] Like I’ve always thought that it was kind of bad role modeling that parents come to the park and the kids are active and the parent sit like a lump on the bench.
