Despite the development and delivery of the solutions reported in this document, the needs of elderly and chronically ill homeless people in Canada are still largely unmet. [...] Long-term care providers expressed the view that for residential facilities to be able to accommodate formerly homeless people, the facility staff need to be informed about the culture of homelessness and about the reasons for the client’s homelessness. [...] Alternatively, some informants expressed concern about the vulnerability of persons to downtown predators and suggested that a location in the outskirts of the city or in the country is most appropriate. [...] The array and intensity of services offered in the 13 projects and the number of sources and referrals of clients/residents reflect inter-sectoral, inter-agency collaboration. [...] This literature review focuses primarily on the issue of elderly homeless persons, beginning with a review of studies undertaken on prevalence and profiles, a discussion of the causes of homelessness among the elderly, and issues that arise in finding solutions.
