Placements for learners : PLACES final report 2015

We have appreciated the consistent guidance of this group who have contributed to thinking about the focus of the research, the interpretation of results, and the next steps for research in this area. [...] The purpose of the study was to understand student practice education trends (i.e., placement volume and utilization patterns), and to explore the relationships between hours hosted, setting characteristics and quality of the clinical learning environment. [...] Establish organizational learning cultures to improve student practice education experiences by using the tools to assess the learning culture of a practice setting (i.e., Quality of the Learning Environment (QCLE)) and a practice settings readiness for students (i.e., Readiness for Student Practice Education (RSPE)). [...] To distribute the questionnaires to clinical teachers/faculty and students, we contacted leadership at the eight post-secondary education institutions in the study’s geographical area to inform them 10 PLACES FINAL REPORT 2015 of the randomly selected settings, and the number of students and teachers/faculty that our records showed as having attended those settings during the designated timeframe. [...] Quality of the Clinical Learning Environment (QCLE).32 The 27-item QCLE instrument (see Appendix B) measures perceptions of the quality of the clinical learning environment from the perspective of students and clinical teachers who attended the learning environment and the staff nurses who work there.
