[...] Children of involved fathers are more likely to demonstrate a greater tolerance for stress and frustration (Mischel, Shoda, & Peake, 1988), have superior problem solving and adaptive skills (Biller, 1993), be more playful, resourceful, skilful, and attentive when presented with a problem (Mischel et al., 1988), and are better able to manage their emotions and impulses in an appropriate manner. [...] The obesity of the father is associated with a four-fold increase in the risk of obesity of sons and daughters at age 18 (Burke, Beilin, & Dunbar, 2001). [...] Some research extends the benefits of father involvement for children in relationship to problem behaviours to fathers and mothers. [...] More recently research indicates that a mother’s positive relationship with both the father and his family was found to predict a greater likelihood of initiated and sustained high father involvement.
