International development in a contested world: ending extreme poverty and tackling climate change

A White Paper on International Development. In 2015, the world gathered at the United Nations to agree the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). At half-way point, the SDGs are off-track and impacts of climate change and nature loss are accelerating. The global context for development has changed. The UK approach to development needs to change with it. This White Paper sets out a re-energised international development agenda where aid would be delivered in poor countries “as far as possible through local institutions and organisations”.
