Its purposes are to: • promote the clarification and simplification of the law and its adaptation to modern social needs, • promote improvement of the administration of justice and respect for the rule of law, and • promote and carry out scholarly legal research. [...] We are also grateful for the participation of Darin Thompson, Chief Policy Officer in the Civil and Criminal Policy Division of the Ministry of Attorney General, who ob- served the Project Committee in action and was the liaison with the Ministry throughout the project. [...] We thank all the individuals and organizations that responded to the consultation paper issued in the course of the project, including all contributors to the collegial response provided on behalf of the B. [...] The Institute acknowledges the contribution of members of the Institute’s staff to the project and the preparation of this report: Karen Campbell, Greg Blue, K. [...] The objectives of the project are: • to identify how the common law rules of tort need to be adapted to provide just and adequate civil remedies for harm to persons, property, and other legal inter- ests resulting from the operation of autonomously functioning artificial intelli- gence; and • to develop and publish recommendations to adapt the law of tort to address that context.
