Asia Pacific employment and social outlook 2024 : promoting decent work and social justice to manage ageing societies

2024

The Asia and the Pacific region faces enormous existing and emerging challenges for labour markets and social justice. Despite strong economic growth and steady improvements in some key labour market indicators over several decades, progress in several crucial dimensions of decent work is too slow, with large gaps persisting. In addition, the region is projected to have one of the world’s most rapidly ageing populations. Implementing policies that address decent work deficits will not only alleviate existing challenges but will also render upcoming challenges from ageing more manageable.
