A Brief Naval Overview of the Baltic Sea Region

In an overview of the physical environment of the Baltic Sea, the naval forces within it, and the potential dynamics of the region in the event of conflict, the authors of this paper describe how Russia could achieve a degree of sea denial in the Baltic Sea, constraining military and commercial use of the sea. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization must continue improving its capabilities to deter and counter Russian aggression in the Baltic Sea.
