MEDIA RELEASE 2024

19 Jun 2024

The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) is pleased to welcome the recently announced updates to the Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs), aimed at fostering fair competition and achieving equitable outcomes across the Government procurement landscape. [...] In a move that aligns with AIIA's long-standing advocacy, the updated rules noted that apart from value for money considerations, officials are required to extend their consideration of the economic benefit of procurements to the Australian economy by applying it to SMEs and lower-level procurements. [...] The association remains engaged in the current public consultation on the Consideration of Broader Economic Benefits in Procurement to ensure these benefits are accurately assessed, measured and maximised. [...] This plan should include further refinement of the definition of SMEs to ensure the rules support the targeted companies and, enable them to cost-effectively challenge procurement decisions. [...] We look forward to working with the Government to ensure these rules deliver the intended outcomes and foster a more inclusive and competitive procurement environment."
