How ONC can strengthen its HTI-1 rule to ensure transparency, fairness, and equity in AI

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) has recently finalized the Health Data, Technology, and Interoperability: Certification Program Updates, Algorithm Transparency, and Information Sharing (HTI-1) final rule. Established under the 21st Century Cures Act, the new HTI-1 final rule mandates updated transparency mechanisms in health information technologies, specifically in the application of artificial intelligence (AI).
