The development objective of the Second Phase of the Regional Disease Surveillance Systems Enhancement (REDISSE) Project for Africa is to strengthen national and regional cross-sectoral capacity for collaborative disease surveillance and epidemic preparedness in West Africa. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (1) the contractor shall ensure that construction materials such as sand, quarry stone, soils or any other construction materials are acquired from approved suppliers; (2) during operations the engine covers of generators, air compressors, and other powered mechanical equipment shall be closed, and equipment placed as far away from residential areas as possible; (3) waste collection and disposal pathways and sites will be identified for all major waste types expected from construction activities; (4) provision of personal protective equipment (PPE), equipment, and supplies; (5) wastewater treatment facilities are appropriately able to administer sewage handling processes that are designed to inactivate infectious agents; (6) supervision of renovation of infrastructure for isolation facilities in selected hospitals; (7) training of health workers, risk communication focal person, and media personnel on Coronavirus 2019 (COVID -19) risk communication and community engagement; (8) ensure that testing and treatment centers are disability inclusive; and (9) maintain privacy and confidentiality of those seeking healthcare and those who may be part of any contact investigation.
