Ukraine - Second Power Transmission Project : Environmental Assessment (Vol. 5) : Environmental and Social Management Plan for Rehabilitation of SS 330 kV Zhytomyrska

The development objective of the Second Power Transmission Project for Ukraine is to improve the reliability of power transmission system and support implementation of the wholesale electricity market in Ukraine. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (1) cutting of large metal equipment will be carried out by a water jet or by arc-air torches for significant reduction of dust generation; (2) placing noise-protective barriers and providing workers with ear plugs as a protective measure; (3) ensure the presence of special containers for household and construction waste in workplaces and sites with appropriate markings and designation of hazard class; (4) temporary storage of hazardous and toxic materials such as fluorescent lamps, paint, oils, etc., determined on the basis of the classifier as hazardous materials, shall be stored on specific storage site in the territory of substation in a specially designated area; (5) the use of pesticides in soil preparation (such as preparation of pedestals for equipment, access roads, etc.) is prohibited. Preparation and cleaning of the ground will be carried out by mechanical or manual methods; (6) in order to reduce the pollution of water by petroleum products (fuel from motor vehicles), drainage of rain water from the territory should be carried out through a system of tanks with oil and sand traps in the municipal sewage system; and (7) premises for personnel are equipped with fire extinguishers, in the territory the necessary number of boards with fire-prevention equipment should be installed.
