1 - Annual Report 2014 - Heritage Institute for Policy Studies

Attitudes towards elections and democracy in Mogadishu Our first brief dealt with the steady return of the Somali diaspora in recent years and was conducted with the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) and the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs. [...] After publishing the report, HIPS embarked on a series of dialogues throughout Somalia soliciting public opinion on the on-going process of federalism, the role of the federal government of Somalia and the sharing of natural resources. [...] The final report, still in the peer review phase as the 2014 drew to a close, is our longest report to date and the first to be co-published with the RVI. [...] The building lying in the heart of the nation’s capital was looted and destroyed in the early 1990s. [...] At the launch event of the our last policy brief of the year, exploring Mogadishu residents’ attitudes toward elections and democracy, the Deputy Mayor of Mogadishu and the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Elections stated they would carefully consider recommendations put forward for local Benadir elections in 2015.
