The first free election in Lesotho is scheduled for 27 March 1993, and is arousing considerably more international interest than the significance of the country would normally warrant. This paper examines the concerns and issues which will confront Lesotho after the elections. The paper gives a background to the election, and describes the period under military rule. It concludes with an overview of the pre-election process and what the possible outcomes of the election will mean for Lesotho.
