At this point it is important to 4 highlight on the aspects of the police forces of Tanganyika and Zanzibar to establish a clear understanding of the origins of the Tanzania police force, as explained by the Ministry of Public Safety and Security in Medium-Term Strategic Plan 2007-2010. [...] This declared the supremacy of the party and accorded it the authority to ensure that the functions of all state organs were to be performed under the auspices of the partyi. [...] The police force, being a state organ, made up part of the security sector and was required by law to abide by the constitution and to the party and government in power. [...] One of the main features in the Constitutional reforms was to abolish the adherence to the party (CCM) supremacy in public sector institutions, including the security sector institutions and the general civil service. [...] 5.0 Challenges of Politicisation of Policing in Tanzania after the Multiparty Democracy Politicisation of the security sector in the mid 1960s to the late 1980s was intended to consolidate the sovereign state of Tanzania.
