This chapter identifies and analyzes Asian cities’ shortcomings as effective labor markets in three major problem areas: urban mobility, land-use management, and affordable housing. It also examines the relationship of development and urbanization from an urban systems perspective, and calls for more empirical research conducted in the region using increasingly available geo-coded big data to guide evidence-based policy discussion and formulation toward making Asian cities more efficient, inclusive, and livable.
