The banking union and the decisions of the CJEU :Towards a complete legal order?

16 Sep 2024

Since the inception of the Banking Union numerous decisions of the CJEU have been issued. The purpose of this paper is to assess the impact of some of the key decisions on the legal framework established 10 years ago, showing how they have been instrumental in supporting a centralised and integrated model of banking supervision at the EU level. In that context, the SSM could represent an example of a truly integrated EU legislative system, with a proper institutional balance. This document was provided/prepared by the Economic Governance and EMU Scrutiny Unit at the request of the ECON Committee.
