My study – and PhD thesis – sought to address this research and policy gap by investigating the extent and nature of unmet need for social care services in England from the perspective of unpaid carers, the reasons for this support gap and some of the consequences. [...] In conclusion, there are inequalities in who receives support in the form of social care services and in the impacts of unmet need for services on carers, meaning the issue of unmet need has potential to affect a large proportion of the population and to compound existing disadvantages.
