[...] With the Legislature approaching the April 11 cut-off, legislators this week continued to spend the majority of their time in the House and Senate Chambers (mostly remotely) and the respective political caucuses. [...] This bill, as introduced, was very concerning due to the loose definition of “high risk employee.” The current version of the bill has a very tight definition and clarifies that for a person to be considered a “high risk employee,” the person must: (1) meet the definition of high risk under the CDC; AND (2) have a medical provider recommend removal from the workplace due to high risk of illness. [...] The bill’s House companion, HB 1213, remained alive and continued through the process until it failed to be adopted by the Senate Ways & Means Committee This Week in Olympia: at the opposite house fiscal committee cut-off, with an agreement to use the Week 13, April 5–9, 2021 Senate bill as the legislative vehicle to move the Fair Start for Kids Act.
