In the headquarters, he served at the Policy Planning Department, at the Directorate General of Bilateral Economic Relations and Directorate General of EU (head of Department), and in abroad, at the Turkish Embassies in Brussels (1983-86) and in Damascus (1986-88), at the Office of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Turkey to the UN at Geneva (1990-94), at the Permanent Delegation of Turkey. [...] She completed her PhD on the European Minority Rights Regime at the Politics and International Relations of the EU Department of the Marmara University EU Institute and worked at the same Institute as a researcher and assistant professor between 1994 and 2007. [...] The main reason for this is the opportunities missed, as well as the mistakes the two sides made over the years and the consequent mistrust. [...] This ideal is a pluralist and inclusive EU within the framework of the social state and under the principle of separation of powers committed to the rule of law and human rights. [...] For this reason, in the first instance, the priority is to put forward the political will to establish a sustainable relationship between the EU and Turkey that will serve the interests of both sides, and to take constructive steps towards getting the relations back on track.
