The paper also looks to the queer community and their acts of resilience as a lever to recast them from the role of vic4m, whilst acknowledging the limita4ons and some4mes harmful impact of expec4ng individuals and groups to be resilient in the face of such disasters. [...] The destruc4on of homes and queer neighbourhoods profoundly affects the queer community, as these loca4ons hold significant meaning as "sites of memory" and play a crucial role in the crea4on and preserva4on of queer iden44es (McKinnon et al., 2016). [...] QUEER RESILIENCE TO DISASTER EVENTS Queer resilience is the unique ability of queer people to thrive in the face of adversity, developed through experiences of oppression and discrimina4on in order to survive and thrive in a world that is hos4le to them (Asakura, 2016; Greteman, 2021). [...] These narra4ves tend to oversimplify the experiences and challenges (Barrita and Wong-PadoongpaF, 2021) faced by queer individuals and dismiss the urgent need for targeted support and resources specifically tailored to the diverse needs of queer communi4es, further marginalising queer people. [...] We outlined how the queer community experiences unique traumas linked to their specific iden44es before, during and a@er the event, due to the social posi4oning and exclusion of the queer community.
