Five global diabetes targets have been developed to strengthen the prevention and control of diabetes. There are different approaches and data sources that can be used to measure progress against these targets within the WHO European Region. In Tajikistan, diabetes surveillance is provided by health examination STEPwise approach to NCD risk factor surveillance (STEPS) surveys conducted approximately every five years.

- Lessons learned 6
- In Tajikistan progress against many of the global diabetes targets can be effectively assessed using health examination survey data. 6
- Although effective for estimating the diabetes targets there are important limitations from using health examination surveys. 6
- A more in-depth picture of diabetes care in Tajikistan can be achieved through conducting stratified analysis and monitoring trends for the diabetes targets. 6
- Assessing improvements in the diabetes targets over time is important where targets are not currently achieved. 7
- Triangulating multiple data sources is of value to have more timely estimates of progress against the diabetes targets in Tajikistan. 7
- Using data for improvement 7
