Zimbabwe: Submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review, 40th Session Working Group, January-February2022

29 Jul 2021

In this submission, Amnesty International evaluates the implementation of recommendations made to Zimbabwe in its previous UPR, including in relation to ensuring legislation is line with the new constitution, investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Itai Dzamara and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice, guaranteeing the free exercise of the right to demonstrate, protecting CSO actors and human rights organisations from harassment and persecution. Amnesty International raises concern about the entrenched system of repression characterised by an unrelenting attack on civil society, human rights activists and media, an over reliance on the military to suppress peaceful dissent.
