Thus, the majority of the Counties suffering the impacts from the desert locust infestation in the Northern parts of Kenya are largely Arid and Semi- Arid Areas (ASALs) and majority of the resident’s practice nomadic pastoralism as their livelihood and are also home to some of the National parks, reserves and conservancies. [...] The remaining project components do not require the development of specific IPPs in line with the requirements of the ESF and consist of: • Component 1: Surveillance and Control Measures – The objective of activities under this component is to limit the growth of existing desert locust populations and curb their spread, while mitigating the risks associated with control measures and their impacts [...] It is also imperative to give special attention to the poor and socially vulnerable groups during the design and development of mitigation measures for the social risks and challenges that may be encountered during the implementation of the project in the regions. [...] First, the breadth, depth, and type of analysis of the SA is proportionate to the potential risks and impacts of the proposed project on the IP/SSAHUTLC. [...] In the initial preparatory stages, the environmental and social standard specialists in the PCU will assist in the identification of specific sub projects that will require the preparation of the IP/plans.
