UNICEF’s activities will focus on the provision of an essential package of services to address the health and nutrition basic needs of the population, and maintain the operational capacity of the existing health system at the governorate and district levels. [...] The types and volume of medical waste will vary by the size of the service delivery site and the services provided. [...] The overall objective of the plan is to prevent and/or mitigate the negative impacts and risks of medical waste on human health and the environment. [...] Through its respective networks of providers, government health offices (GHOs), district health offices (DHOs), UNICEF will work with the existing local health system structures at the governorate, district and community levels to preserve the national capacity and maintain the core functions of the health system and to supervise and contribute in implementation of the medical waste management pla [...] UNICEF will coordinate with this directorate to facilitate the implementation of the provisions of this plan and further to ensure medical waste management sustainability beyond the scope and duration of the YEHCP.
