The objective of the ESMF is to assess and mitigate potential negative environment and social (E&S) risks and impacts of the Project consistently with the Environmental and Social Standards (ESSs) of the World Bank Environmental and Social Framework (ESF). [...] Environmental and Social Baseline; Uganda is located on the Eastern region of 0 0 Africa and lies mostly between latitudes 4 12’ to the North and 1 29’ to the South and 0 0 between longitude 29 34’ and 35 00’ to the East, bordered by the Republic of Kenya in the East, Tanzania and Rwanda in the South, Democratic Republic of Congo in the West and Sudan in the North. [...] Screening determines the relevant instruments and specific actions planned to prevent, avoid, minimize, reduce or mitigate the environmental and social risks and impacts of the project over the project cycle to meet the ESS requirements. [...] The monitoring will be undertaken at the beneficiary schools, through preparation of monthly and quarterly monitoring reports that will feed into the Project Coordinators monthly and annual progress reports to be submitted to the Management of the Ministry and the Bank.
