IDSS continued its focus on issues of vital importance to Singapore and the region, such as the rise of China and India, and political and strategic developments in Malaysia and Indonesia, civil and internal Message from the Director conflicts in Southeast Asia, and trends in contemporary Islam in Southeast Asia and beyond. [...] In the area of teaching, the Institute’s three Master of Science programmes, in Strategic Studies, International Relations and In ternational Political Economy, were inaugurated in 1998, 2002 and 2004 respectively to cater to the development of defence and security professionals, civil servants and others with an interest in these fields. [...] Other major sources of funds in clude the Instituted Master^ programmes; the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Security Coordination Secretariat which remunerate IDSS for teaching and consultancy services; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which supports CSCAP and other Track Two activities; and the Singapore Totalisator Board, which funds the annual Asia-Pacific P. [...] The Institute has come a long way in establishing itself as a centre for teaching and research in strategic studies, and as one of the key nodes in the global network of security conferences and institutes. [...] A Review of 2006 In 2007, the Centre for the Advanced Study of Regionalism and Multilateralism and the Consortium of Non-Traditional Security Stud ies in Asia will be established.
