Whiteness refers to practices, policies and perspectives that create and enable the dominance of White people and White systems, and the perceived neutrality and invisibility of this dominance. [...] The current national and global political context has shown increased public awareness and interest in anti-racism in light of events such as the Wet’suwet’en pipeline protests across Canada, the murder of George Floyd in Minnesota and subsequent Black Lives Matter demonstrations around the world, the rise in anti-Asian racism following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the death of Joyce Ec.
