The GMG brings together specific migration expertise from the UN system as a whole, to share and disseminate information, expertise and advice on migration issues, based on the solid experience and competencies of the participating agencies. [...] In 2017, as mandated by the modalities resolution for the intergovernmental negotiations of the global compact for safe, orderly and regular migration, the GMG, then Chaired by the UN University, provided assistance to the Office of the President of the General Assembly with organizing the thematic sessions, and to the SRSG by drafting inputs to the issue briefs prepared in advance of each of the. [...] For example, one event was held this month on the margins of the 62nd Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, and focused on the contributions of rural women migrants to development. [...] Another – jointly organized with the Global Forum on Migration and Development – is being held here in the framework of the International Dialogue on Migration, with expert panelists presenting ways to support policy making and achieve country-level results in addressing the drivers of forced migration and harnessing the development potential of orderly migration, including the role of climate cha. [...] The GMG is fully committed to supporting Member States, in collaboration with stakeholders, to work towards the adoption of a concrete, action-oriented and forward-looking global compact in 2 Morocco in December of this year, that builds on the commitments agreed to in the New York Declaration and ensures that this first blueprint for international migration is truly people- centered, human rights.
