The Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response, which we had the honour of co-chairing, spent eight months reviewing the global experience of COVID-19 in the first year of the pandemic. [...] At the present pace of change, the world is laying the groundwork for failure and the risk of a new pandemic with the same devastating consequences. [...] Convened by Heads of State who represent the 90 countries of the AU, CARICOM, the G7 and the G20, it resulted in engagement and commitments from national governments, UN agencies, funds, and foundations, research organizations, the private sector, and civil society.
