Mauritania HIGHLIGHTS1 IN NEED In Mauritania, one in four children lives in absolute poverty, 80 per cent of children 715,000 435,000 experience at least one form of violence, and 3 in 10 children are exposed to drought, 3 4 floods or suffer from severe acute malnutrition.2 The COVID-19 pandemic and polio people children outbreaks have exacerbated the situation and hampered the development of a pr. [...] 340,080 Mauritania is facing the dire consequences of climate change,7 with severe droughts and people in need of seasonal flooding affecting the availability of safe drinking water and the use of adequate nutrition assistance19 sanitation practices,8 and endangering peaceful coexistence and social cohesion among communities. [...] The newly developed case management protocol will be contextualized to better respond to humanitarian needs and to guarantee the adequate care of survivors of all forms of violence, including sexual and gender- based violence, as well as that of children on the move and children with disabilities. [...] Due to the socioeconomic impact of the COVID-19 and polio epidemics, high rates of food insecurity, and potential for further instability and conflict in the HEC region, the country’s needs and financial requirements have slightly increased compared to 2021. [...] Through the improvement of the municipal protection system and the strengthening of the capacities of our partners, we can have more beneficiaries with the same funding.
