The development objective of the Improved Rural Connectivity Project for Zambia is to improve rural accessibility for communities in the selected areas. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (1) financial compensation for lost land at full replacement value; (2) intercropped crops will be compensated in proportion to the coverage and proportionate reduction of weight of rate as determined by Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) formula; (3) financial compensation based on the full replacement value of the existing structures as determined by a registered valuer; (4) transitional hardship assistance as appropriate to specific cases, for example, support female headed household to assist during transition and other assistance deemed appropriate under specific circumstances; (5) compensation for loss of business income based on baseline financial data for affected enterprises; and (6) any transactional costs to restore previously existing business rights will be borne by the project.
