[...] Following the largest-ever air and sea exercises close to Taiwan, the danger of China’s military aggression and the possibility of the US-China rivalry spilling over into conflict in the region has become a real possibility. [...] The revival of the QUAD24 and Australia’s desire to re-join the dialogue was a major development signalling a significant shift in the geopolitics of the Indo-Pacific region. [...] The dialogue was created with the backdrop of the rise of China and the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami.
