On 09 Nov 2022, General Surovikin, Commander of Russian Forces in Ukraine informed Sergei Shoigu, Russia’s defence minister in a televised briefing that Russia’s position in Kherson had become untenable and the “most sensible option” in the circumstances would be to establish a new defensive line on the eastern side of the Dnieper river.
