In this process the experts have pragmatically evaluated three major components of the meat production in the country; namely: 1) challenges and opportunities for sustainable meat production in Ethiopia; 2) The Evaluation of the policy context and the regulatory framework in Ethiopia in reference to the needs of the international market; and 3) the Institutional capacity in the country available f. [...] Policies and programs on Livestock: The government of Ethiopia strived over the past 4-5 decades, to improve the production and productivity and economic profitability of the livestock sector through financial support either in the form of loans or grants obtained from bilateral and multilateral donors; Most of the livestock development projects are geared toward improving livestock productivi. [...] We would like to specially express our appreciation to the staff, researchers and administration of the Ethiopian Policy Studies Institute and the Ethiopian Academy of Science for their initiation to take the lead in stimulating the policy and practice of strengthening livestock chains aiming to advance the sector to the EU markets.
