India: CCAG Country Report

In its India report, CCAG argues that while India is on track to meet its commitment of net zero emissions by 2070, it desperately needs the rest of the world to step in to accelerate this transition that is crucial for India’s economy, people, and the rest of the world. India is one of the countries that is most vulnerable to climate change. As India suffers the consequences of climate change far more than it contributes to it, it is only fair that the country plans to reach net zero emissions by 2070. CCAG believes it could significantly exceed this target. India is one of the few countries on track to deliver its climate commitments: wind capacity has grown by 10% a year for the past five years, while solar has grown rapidly at a rate of 60% a year. The country has committed to purchasing 43% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. But as the world’s third biggest carbon emitter, India must do much more to reduce emissions, or else put the world’s climate commitments at risk.
