AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC STATEMENT AFR 44/001/2010 1 February 2010 Nigeria: Amnesty International disclaimer On Friday 29 January 2010, Daily Triumph newspaper in Nigeria reported that Amnesty International presented an award ‘Icon of Human Right in Nigeria 2009’ to Jigawa state governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido. [...] Amnesty International would like to stress that any awards given by “Amnesty International” have not been authorized by the organization and should therefore not be attributed to Amnesty International. [...] Amnesty International does not have an office in Nigeria, nor any representatives authorized to speak on behalf of the organization in Nigeria. [...] At the moment, the organization does not have any membership groups in Nigeria. [...] As such, Amnesty International does not accept responsibility for the content of any message, statement or report issued by “Amnesty International Nigeria.” Amnesty International is a worldwide human rights campaigning movement that works to promote all the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international standards.
