Global experience and support can play a crucial role in selection of efficient transition pathways for coal regions, and in establishment of structures that help build capacities and competencies of a wide range of institutions and individuals involved in the transition phase as well as support initial pilot or demonstration projects to stimulate implementation. [...] Given the limited technical and economic capacities of the region and in view of the dedicated attention required, the initiative included additional capacity building measures of twinning or partnering and establishment of a Coal Regions in Transition Academy, in addition to financing for transition projects. [...] On an average, these levies add up to I0.40 to I0.50 in the final per unit price of coal-based power supplied to consumers.38 Of these levies, only 10-30% of the royalties collected flow directly to coal communities in the form of DMF funds while most of the money flow back to the national and state kitty. [...] During COP24, 52 Heads of States and Governments, as signatories to the Solidarity and Just Transition Silesia Declaration, expressed support to just transition as an essential part of achieving the Paris Agreement and the SDGs.
