Defense Dollars Saved Through Reforms Can Boost the Military’s

Towards that goal, The Heritage Foundation and Mackenzie Eaglen of the American Enterprise Institute recently convened a group of experts for The DOD and congressional oversight multi-day discussions and examination of the defense should find efficiencies within the defense budget to identify efficiencies and methods to save budget to ensure that taxpayers’ dollars money to build the most capable. [...] The following are the major proposals for saving and reinvesting money in the DOD to add to the Armed Forces’ ability to counter both China and other challenges to U. [...] Most of the blame for the Pentagon’s outmoded human resources system—and the difficulties in understanding how ready military units are for the missions they are called upon to undertake—lies with the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness.64 As an example, even though mili- tary recruiting is facing its worst crisis since the start of the all-volunteer force in 1973,. [...] Reducing the number of PMEs and the number of officers and non-commissioned officers spending time in such schools would reduce the number of personnel the DOD would need to hire to operate these schools and reduce the number of military personnel attending them, requiring them to either transfer to new schools or to travel on temporary duty. [...] To the extent possible, the DOD and the people tasked with conducting oversight of the DOD in Congress should find efficiencies within the defense budget and ensure that taxpayers’ dollars are being allocated responsibly and to the right priorities.
