He is the editor of the quarterly journal Nova Cidadania, and president of the Portuguese section of the International Churchill Society/Churchill Centre, as well as a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Democracy. [...] He is a founding board member of the European Council on Foreign Relations, a member of the Board of Trustees of The International Crisis Group and member of the Board of Directors of GLOBSEC. [...] He is an Officer of the Order of the Star of Italy (2015), a Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George (2017), a Commander of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Romania (2020), and a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland (2021).
