The workshop brought together researchers, industry, non-governmental organizations and other interested parties to identify research needs and discuss the opportunities and challenges of integrating and then scaling up the use of seaweed as a widely consumed livestock feed product. [...] The conveners designed the workshop series (breakout sessions plus main event) as a forum to help guide the evaluation of seaweed as a safe and effective livestock feed ingredient, compile a directory of emerging research from around the globe, and begin mapping out a collaborative pathway ahead that identifies and fosters opportunities for regional and international coordination.
