For instance, between 2018 and 2020 Africa CDC collaborated with the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the World Health Organization (WHO during the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on contact tracing initiatives, laboratory services, and the training of thousands of healthcare workers and traditional healers. [...] In order to enable Africa CDC to carry out is mandate effectively, the Heads of State and Government at the 35th AU Assembly held on the 5th – 6th February 2022 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, decided to elevate Africa CDC from a specialized institution of the AU responsible to the Commissioner for Social Affairs to “autonomous health institution of the Union”3 under the leadership Director General. [...] Moreover, the AU Assembly instructed the Commission to revise the statute of Africa CDC to reflect the new status and delegated the authority to the Executive Council to review and approve the amended Statute. [...] 1169(XLI) adopted the New Africa CDC Statute and affirming the decision of the AU Assembly to make Africa CDC an autonomous institution of the AU and the new structure. [...] Africa CDC as part of the implementation of the above decisions is hiring an Individual Consultant (IC) who will work closely with the Head of Management and Administration Division and the Office of the Protocol Directorate at the AU Commission.
