1 The Need for Trauma-informed School Leadership For schools in Australia and many others around the world, we currently face the impacts of multiple crises, from devastating bushfires and climate change induced natural disasters, the COVID-19 pandemic, the events renewing urgency in the Black Lives Matter movement, and a deepened awareness of systemic racism. [...] Nevertheless, it is helpful to draw on the literature to define leadership, both as a key term as the focus of this study, and to frame the diverging perspectives on leadership for the rest of this section. [...] The systems-aware leadership literature views support and safety in terms of building the agency of staff to shift the context toward safe and supportive systems.
