2 | How has transport infrastructure developed over the last decades and to what ex- tent interrelates this supply of infrastructure with actual demand for the respec- tive modes? The report investigates the development of railways, motorways and airports in the mentioned 30 European countries. [...] The closure of these loss-making lines was one of the most important measures stipulated in a national railway rehabilitation programme and also one of the demands of the Worldbank, which provided funds for the State railways’ restructuring.
