ICMR

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) was established in 1911 as the apex body in India for the formulation, coordination, and promotion of biomedical research. Initially known as the Indian Research Fund Association (IRFA), it was renamed in 1949 to reflect its expanded mandate. ICMR's mission is to conduct and promote research for improving public health and addressing the health challenges of the nation. It collaborates with national and international agencies, supports health research through its network of institutes, and provides grants-in-aid for extramural research. ICMR's work spans various fields including infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, reproductive health, nutrition, and environmental health.
