Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation

Founded after the fall of the Berlin wall and the iron curtain, the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation aims to promote co-operation and European development based on freedom, democracy and market economy. This is done through education and information on democracy and European integration directed to political parties and organizations. In the first year since its founding, the Foundation focused on countries in the closest vicinity; Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and the St. Petersburg area. Since then, the Foundation has expanded its operations to other countries and regions. Today, we are active in Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, the Balkans, Turkey and Latin America. The Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation is affiliated with the Swedish centre-right party Moderaterna. Our operations are primarily funded by the Swedish International Development Agency, SIDA, within the frame of party affiliated democracy support. The aim of this specific kind of democracy support is to promote the development of a well functioning party system and a representative democratic political system.
