National Health Mission

part of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare

The India National Health Mission (NHM) was launched in 2005 by the Government of India with the objective of addressing the health needs of under-served rural and urban populations. It combines the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM). NHM aims to provide accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare to the poorest and most vulnerable sections of society. The mission focuses on strengthening healthcare systems, improving maternal and child health, combating communicable and non-communicable diseases, and promoting universal health coverage. NHM operates through various programs and initiatives, including the Janani Suraksha Yojana, Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram, and Ayushman Bharat. It collaborates with state governments, non-governmental organizations, and international agencies to implement its initiatives across India.
