ICSEAD, established by the city of Kitakyushu with the support of various private organizations, conducts research in the fields of economics, business and social development in East Asia. Center researchers collaborate with researchers from other universities and research institutions; through these activities, ICSEAD contributes to the promotion of economic research on the development of East Asian nations, including Japan. The center's research division consists of three sections: Section 1 focuses on trade and investment issues pertinent to international economic policy; Section 2 focuses on industry studies, including analysis of seaports and urban environmental problems associated with industrial activity; and Section 3 focuses on quantitative analysis, including analysis of consumer and firm behavior.
